My Morning Jacket has finally released an EP that every drug-addled hipster has been waiting for! 'Outta My System EP' is a mix of various remixes and instrumentals of their ironic song of the same name that talks about the dangers of delving into drugs and the consequences that follow.
Interestingly enough, the Washed Out remix is one the tracks that can only be better if you were tripping balls on acid. Not that I've tried, but its soothing melodies and random therapeutic dialouges mixed in create a harmonious new interpretation of the already nostalgic-feelings that are sure to be awoken in many a youth.
Grab a couple tracks below, including a mix by Dave Sitek [also known for his efforts with Florence & The Machine, Death Cab For Cutie]. And peep the music video, a mind-warping cartoon shroom trip featuring funny man Zach Galafanakis as a wizard.

Londoners' The xx have unveiled an ethereal new track titled 'Angels' from their upcoming [post-hell-temperature] Fall release, Coexist. And while that is sound advice for humanity in general--it sure is hard when people are sweating all over you every which-way you turn.
The song provides a dreamy backdrop with which to imagine floating in a refreshing spring or pool [hopefully devoid of city kids pissing all up in it]. Soft vocals and a minimalist approach make this a very soothing musical selection.
The album drops Sept. 11th on Young Turks Records.

In preparation for the release of their 2nd album, Gossamer, the abstract bunch known as Passion Pit have been dropping new tracks like, whoa!
Early tracks 'Take A Walk' and 'I'll Be Alright' --both of which touch on very different ends of the band’s aesthetic spectrum. And now here’s yet another very different track: 'Constant Conversations', a sunny, patient piece of whiteboy soul. Give it a listen below.
Gossamer is out 7/24 on Columbia.

We all know the summer brings promises of love, passion and blah blah blah...Maybe its the 100+ degree weather. Maybe its all the margheritas. Who knows! One thing we can all agree on, is that music just sounds better on a sunny day.
Well now you can swoon your lover-to-be with some fresh beats for the [boiling] streets. Saint Saviour has a nice interpretation of M83's track 'Midnight City'. And Twin Shadow remixes chillwaves' resident summertime musician Neon Indian and his song 'Hex Girlfriend'--which if you put on said girlfriend, might ruin that romantic evening you had planned.
Also on deck is an anonymous remix of Little Dragon's dreamy, swimmy jam 'Crystal Film.' Full of bass-y dub potential and underwater notes.
Other gems abound. Be sure to check em all out 'dont wait for later...' Cause you know--it'll be too hot to do anything and the mood will be gone.

A day after The Antlers teased their forthcoming Undersea EP with the lush ethereal jam 'Drift Dive', the trio unleashed another cut called 'Crest' [this morning to be specific]. It’s a somewhat glitchy, sample-laden affair that explores similar sonic territory as 'Drift Dive'. Remember the underwater dystopia from the first Bioshock game? Their audio newness would be a perfect addition to the soundtrack exploring the ruined town (as opposed to the scenes where mutants try to claw your face off).
Undersea is out 7/24 in the U.S. on Anti- and 7/30 in the UK on Transgressive.

Metric is set to release their sunny new album Synthetica, in the coming weeks (June 12th to be exact). Since dropping such buzzworthy news, the masses have been able to chow down on the freshness bestowed on us from the powers-that-be. The first single 'Youth Without Youth' has satiated our appetites for a while...But now, they’ve dropped a second jam, 'Speed The Collapse' from the upcoming release--a pummeling, uptempo song swimming in a Radiohead-esque texture. Stream it below.
Synthetica is out 6/12 Metric Music International/Mom + Pop. Stereogum recently spoke to Metric’s Emily Haines for a Progress Report.

Last month, YACHT’s excellently blippy cover of the great Brigitte Fontaine/Art Ensemble Of Chicago classic 'Le Goudron'. And on that single’s B-side, they repeat the trick, doing a similarly club-friendly cover of another counterculture-pop anthem from the same era. This one, though, is a song that you probably already have strong feelings about: The Velvet Underground’s golden oldie, 'I'll Be Your Mirror'. Obtain the YACHT version below and snag a DL of both tracks and the original [Only place to do so...you know how we do!]
Head HERE for a bunch of crazy remixes and extended versions of Le Goudron.

Sleigh Bells’ hit 'Demons', is an intense visual that serves as the best summary of the visceral live experience that they bring to the stage. According to Pitchfork, it’s an homage to classic Pantera videos and it’s composed of live footage from tour stops in Omaha, Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Houston. Stuttering lights, closeup's, and sweeping camera angles all make quite a dark and ominous ambience. The Bells’ own Derek Miller co-directs alongside Gregory Kohn. Watch it below and grab Diplo’s new remix of the track while you’re down there.

Brand new quick-witted, quick-paced melodic rapper from D.C. native Oddisee has injected his EP with some the best and also unusual influences: Bon Iver, Marvin Gaye & Metronomy. His album, 'Odd Renditions' is just that. Odd, but also highly addictive. The first track 'Paralyzed,' features Bon Iver's 'RE: Stacks' chorus as his own, jacking it up with digital beats and few other bells & whistles.

For all the screaming psychedelic, jam-out, ‘we know how to play our instruments super well’ moments that White Denim creates, 'Get Back To Love (Street Joy)' is a welcome smooth-as-hell revelation. The four-piece Austin TX outfit reminds use that it's okay to occasionally put all of the theatrics aside and just go for a ’60s barbershop soul vibe — some beautiful music to fall in love (or do other requisite love-oriented things) to.
The band will be banging out the beats next weekend, April 13th at Bowery Ballroom in NYC. Peep it.

Some pairings are just meant to be: peanut butter and chocolate, yupsters and absinthe drips, Mr. Little Jeans…and Wavves? California dream pop meets rambunctious surfer rock. Seems like a disaster but sounds like awesome. 'Runaway' as heard through a wall of Brillo pads, trashy guitars and sandy reverb nearly bests the original. It’s hypnotic, dark and feels like sleeping under the boardwalk with no blanket. This is weekend rock, through and through.
No word on anything new yet..but as always--shall keep you posted.

New York noise rockers A Place To Bury Strangers will follow up February’s Onwards to the Wall EP with the release of their third LP, Worship, on June 26th via Dead Oceans. The band describes the 11-track effort, which they wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered themselves, as “our vision of what music should sound like in 2012.” Here's more:
“Every sound on the album is made by us and our tools; tools created by us, used on no other recordings, and purposefully built for this project. This is real,” bassist Dion Lunadon explains in an issued statement. “Some of it is the band being in complete control — bending, shaping and building the songs and the sounds. Other parts are the band relinquishing control and letting the songs and sounds take over and produce themselves. We are not trying to reinvent ourselves, but simply push ourselves further in all aspects of our music.”
Sonically, the album interweaves “threads of krautrock, dream-pop, and 80s goth without ever losing the edge that is quintessentially Strangers,” according to a press release. As a first listen, you can stream and download 'You Are The One' below (via SPIN.com). The tracklist follows.

Besides having an unusual addiction to coffee, another passion of David Lynch is creating unusual music and films. The latest from the 'Mad-Men-esque' silver fox is his video for 'Crazy Clown Time' and title track for his most recent experimental album.
Although highly NSFW (when has that stopped you trying to find those Playboy shots of Lindsay Lohan), it is very well done. In the clip, Lynch orchestrates the game day after-party from hell, complete with a topless blonde, a couple of fazed out LA hipsters, and what appears to be Ryan Gosling on steroids.
Personally, I was hoping the first video would be 'Pinky's Dream' which features the lovely and talented Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. But if you havent heard this stuff yet, prepare for an mind-warping acid trip only California can provide.

speaking of California...anyone see the Californication season finale??! Wow....
Somewhat a manic song with a sense of urgency; Regina Spektor's new song 'All The Rowboats' is the latest single from the melancholic singer/piano champ. It's a bit darker with a concert hall feel. But all the same its nice to see that not everything is as upbeat and chipper as her other work.
The video for the song is a masterpiece in itself as well. Adria Petty, the director behind Beyonce's 'Countdown' video and Peter Sluszka on stop-motion animation helped make this a very eerie and well-constructed piece of film.
The album, 'What We Saw From The Cheap Seats' hits shelves May 29th on Sire/Warner Bros.

what did we see from the cheap seats? nothing...we were in the front row!
The Temper Trap weren’t joking the other day when they tweeted that ‘Need Your Love,’ the lead single off their self-titled second album, would be “out soon.” Just 48 hours after posting the tweet and teasing their eager fans with a 60-second video clip featuring audio from the song, Temper Trap have unveiled the track in its entirety.
‘Need Your Love’ isn’t likely to be anywhere near as ubiquitous, but it’s still a damn catchy tune that proves ’Sweet Disposition’ was no fluke. Over thick major-key synths, a pounding backbeat and soaring fretwork reminiscent of the Edge, frontman Dougy Mandagi showcases his powerful-yet-fraile voice as he sings about one of the most recognizable themes in human existence--Love!
Grab the bonus track from the new album as well, titled 'Rabbit Hole'.
Album is out May 21. Get it.
